Match Report – Rathpeacon U-14s on top of the World!
Date: 08/05/2023
Venue: Blarney
Competition: East Cork U-14 LGFA League

Rathpeacon U14 Girls secured their latest victory in a great game against close neighbours Whitescross on Monday.
On a beautiful evening for football the girls played into a stiff breeze and strong sun in the first half.
Nicola in goal was assured as ever with very clever kickouts starting off many a move. In defence, Aubrey Leahy mopped up everything at full-back, so assured in her reading of the game and ably assisted by Chloe Hedderman having a great game at wing back. Of course, all the other defenders held their own too, the blue and white wall keeping out many an attack.
Rathpeacon were doing well in midfield but Whitescross were defending in numbers and we found it very hard to break them down with our shooting boots deserting us a little bit in the first half.
Éabha Lynch got her rewards for a tireless performance with a fantastic solo goal running through from midfield and evading many tackles before burying the ball to the net. A well needed tonic going in at half time, up 1-2 – 0-1. The girls took stock at half time and were encouraged to keep passing and shooting which they did to their credit and they got their rewards finding the target with Clodagh, Hannah, Jane, Aoife, Aoibhínn and Kelly all kicking fine scores.
The beauty of this team is in the camaraderie, teamwork and spirit. For every girl that scores there is harrying, chasing, running and passes all over the field from the whole team.
Finally, great to see another local club starting a ladies’ section. Whitescross are in a similar position to ours starting off last year and I’m sure will have many great days ahead with such a good group of players.
