The U-14 Ladies Football team continued their impressive start to the league with another win , this time over St. Colman’s on a crisp day in Kilcully.
The first half was very even, with both teams trading points and rattling the net. Jane Gabriel O’Brien was a rock in the heart of the defence, cutting off attacks from the visitors while Olivia McCarthy clung to her marker, not allowing them a sniff of a score.
The Rathpeacon full-forward line were on fire as usual. Clodagh Rowley was first for every ball, feeding Lucy Fitzgerald for a goal while also getting one herself.
The midfield pairing of Hannah Burke and Éabha Lynch were tireless all morning, covering the breadth and length of the windy pitch. Both scored fabulous points in both halves.
Despite being up at the break, Rathpeacon knew that St. Colman’s would come back with a vengeance in the second half.
That they did, their centre-forward bursting through to score a goal to put the hosts on the back foot.
However, Nicola Tomczak was unflappable in goal. She collected the ball under pressure several times, sidestepping attackers before clearing her lines.
Rathpeacon pushed on towards the end of the second half, securing the win with roving attacks by Chloe Hedderman, linking up with her sister Kelly to terrorise the opposition.
It was a successful day for Rathpeacon LGFA and despite a few players coming off with slight injuries, numbers 1 – 19 performed phenomenally on the day.
We are extremely proud of the U-14 Ladies’ team no matter what the result.
